Prescription abbreviations aren’t exactly thrilling on their own—just a lot of “b.i.d.” this and “q.h.s.” that. Instead of building a typical “read the list and take a quiz” module, I wanted to create something more meaningful.
So I asked:
What do new pharmacy technicians actually need to do on the job?
The result? A gamified, exploratory learning experience where learners don’t just memorize—they discover.
In this prototype:
- Learners work through messy, handwritten prescriptions
- They interpret and enter abbreviations into a simulated system
- Then they see if the printed label matches the doctor's intent
- Each abbreviation is introduced through practice—not presented out of context
I'm especially proud of how the gamification supports the learning (not distracts from it). Progression, feedback, and real-world challenge elements keep it engaging without turning it into a gimmick.
Dial Interaction
Dial Interaction
This gamification element demonstrates how a Storyline 360 dial interaction can enhance technical training through gamification. Instead of presenting the ideal angles for using a pipette and test tube as numbers without much context on a slide, I aimed to create an experience where learners could discover the correct angles intuitively.
Why this approach? In real lab scenarios, professionals rely on muscle memory and visual cues rather than recalling specific angles. By allowing learners to adjust angles in real-time and receive immediate feedback, they can develop a practical understanding that translates directly to their work.
The outcome: An interactive module that encourages exploration and reinforces correct techniques through experiential learning.
